Glossy coat, and less itching? Omega-3 does it all

Glossy coats, clear skin and happy immune systems can all thank Omega-3 Fatty Acids – a great all-in-one to add to your pet’s routine.

by Team WellJoy

Have you ever noticed that your pet feels a little bit… off? Maybe their coat isn’t so sleek, or they seem extra-itchy, or you know that their immune system could do with some help. Omega-3 Fatty Acids can boost all of these areas at once plus calm down inflammation.

They’re one of the most researched nutrients, and one of the hardest working - which is why they’re included in our Skin & Coat+ Treats for Cats, Immune+ Treats for Cats and Immune+ Treats for Dogs. Here’s how they work.

A quick explainer

Inflammation is a normal and important part of how our pets’ bodies protect themselves – but too much inflammation causes problems. Think of it like a fire alarm: very useful in an emergency, but less so if it keeps going off for no reason.

This is where Omega-3 Fatty Acids step in. These tiny little helpers tell the immune system: “Thanks, message received, time to turn down the volume.”

They do this throughout our pets’ bodies, making sure every single cell in every single organ system is communicating clearly, working smoothly and not producing too much inflammation.

Meet the Omega-3 family

There are three different types of Omega-3 Fatty Acids:

  • ALA (Alpha-Linolenic Acid): a building block for the other Omega-3s
  • EPA (Eicosapentaeonic Acid): a supporter of healthy inflammatory response, as well as skin health, joint health and immune function
  • DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid): a structural part of the brain, eyes and nervous system.

A ripple of goodness

Because Omega-3 Fatty Acids work at a cellular level, their benefits show up almost everywhere:

  • Shiny coats, and clear skin: these nutrients lock in moisture and keep irritants out, to reduce dryness, shedding and flaking, and create those soft, sleek coats we love to pet.
  • Smooth joints, more playtime: Omega-3 reduces inflammation and supports tissues in and around joints, so you can play together for longer.
  • Healthy brain, happy nervous system: DHA is a major structural part of the brain and nervous system, helping build and maintain brain cells.
  • Bright eyed, bushy tailed: DHA is also a building block in our pets’ eyes, making sure they function properly.
  • Heart and kidneys A-OK: Omega-3 Fatty Acids support healthy circulation and heart function, and keep the kidneys working at peak efficiency.
  • Boosted whole-body immunity: Your pet’s immune system is essential to overall wellness, and Omega-3s keep that system balanced and functional.
Can’t my pet get Omega-3 from their diet?

Pet food usually contains some level of Omega-3 Fatty Acids, but in variable amounts and qualities. That’s because they’re delicate nutrients that are easily damaged by processing or long storage in packaging. Modern pet foods often contain more Omega-6 than Omega-3, and cats and dogs need a healthy balance of both to get the best support.

At different life stages, pets might have more need of the support Omega-3 offers – for example growing kittens and puppies, very active pets, or senior cats and dogs. Pets that are struggling with skin, coat, joint or immune health can also benefit from higher amounts than are typically found in their food.

How Omega-3 works inside WellJoy

We’ve paired this hard-working nutrient with other complementary ingredients to boost pets’ skin and immune health:

For itchy, dull-coated cats:
In our Skin & Coat+ Treats for Cats, Omega-3 Fatty Acids work alongside Vitamin E and Biotin to nourish hair follicles from within – for a super-soft, glossy coat – regulate inflammatory response, support healthy skin turnover and boost moisture retention.

For cats that need an immune boost:
Our Immune+ Treats for Cats are formulated to support healthy immune function. Omega-3 helps cells communicate and regulate inflammation, and Lysine – an essential amino acid that cats can’t make on their own – supports the production of antibodies. We’ve also added in blueberries for their excellent antioxidant protection, to further support your cat’s natural defenses.

For dogs that need an immune boost:
Omega-3 Fatty Acids play a foundational role in our Immune+ Treats for dogs, balancing inflammation and supporting organ function. Extra help comes from Vitamin E, which protects immune cells and pumpkin fruit, which supports digestive wellness.

What's more, all of WellJoy’s treats are enhanced with an extra, essential layer of support thanks to GutBoost®: a biotic blend of enzymes, prebiotics and probiotics. Not only does it help your pet make better use of all the other nutrients in their WellJoy treats, it supports their gut health – which is closely linked with skin health and immunity.

It’s multi-system support designed to help with some of the most common challenges cats and dogs face, helping pets look better, and feel even better still.
